Why Start a Blog?

Ever since I was a little girl, I've loved to read and write. Grammar and English were always my strongest subjects, which is rather ironic considering I now work in finance. I had an active imagination as a child and loved to dream up silly stories, including one that I vividly remember writing about a boy and a girl living in Switzerland (think a rudimentary spin-off of the book Heidi). I used to write these short stories and would give them to my dad to read (he still has a file of them to this day). However, my affinity for writing lessened as I entered middle school and high school and was obligated to write papers for a grade rather than being able to write purely for fun.
Writing again for personal reasons never crossed my mind until the summer of 2017. A big part of my story is that I battled cancer after my freshman year of college. I honestly can't remember who or what encouraged me to start a blog about my cancer journey, but writing a post every month or so became an avenue for me to consolidate sharing with others the details of my cancer story. Additionally, sharing on my blog was a therapeutic way for me to process what had happened to me physically and emotionally, as well as verbally remind myself of how the Lord was working in my story, even when I couldn't see it. Once I went into remission (praise Jesus), I wrote an occasional blog post about life in college before putting the pen (or should I say the laptop) away. Click to read cancer blog .

Fast forward to today. Why am I wanting to start a blog? What is the purpose? The Lord has put it on my heart to use my story and my enjoyment of writing to share my faith and encourage Christian women by writing about how our relationship with God affects everything. Let’s be real. Being a young Christian in today’s culture can be difficult. The world and the Bible have drastically different things to say about how we should work, how we spend our time, what we watch, how we date, how we treat others, how we view ourselves, how we view God, and what our purpose in this life is. My hope for anyone reading this blog is that you would be encouraged that you are not alone in feeling like it’s a constant uphill battle to lead a holy life that honors the Lord. Praise Jesus for community that encourages us and keeps us accountable in the Christian walk when life gets hard. And praise God that even when we’re not faithful, He is. My hope as well is that you would be encouraged that being a Christian today can be FUN and is truly life-giving. It might not always be the same definition of fun that the world promotes, but it is so much better and fulfilling. “You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore” (Psalm 16:11).
